When growing a business and nurturing your hard-earned legacy, you are always on the lookout for tools, resources, or a new process of doing things to ensure you are operating at peak efficiency. Sometimes we are fortunate enough to have fate intervene and steer us in the right direction. This is the story of how longtime businesswoman Cynthia Cox diversified her accounting firm in 2015.

Cynthia’s husband Douglas Holsted and she met Sean Manning through Rootworks, a firm-improvement organization for accountants. In 2013, Rootworks held a convention in Denver and in true Sean-style, he invited all the members to an open house at his Littleton accounting firm, then Manning & Company. Douglas and Cynthia jumped at the chance to meet Sean and his team. At that time, they had never heard of Payroll Vault but were about to learn how it could help build their payroll business bigger and better.

During the open house Cynthia met Tricia Petteys, COO/Co-founder for Payroll Vault Franchising, for the first time and was impressed with her industry knowledge and genuine kindness. Tricia offered her help in any way although Cynthia & Doug we were not franchisees at the time. Coincidentally, that same year Cynthia found herself struggling with their accounting firm's payroll business and leaned on a little of Tricia’s advice here and there.

Later, Cynthia and Douglas attended the Thomson Reuters Payroll Summit in Baltimore and guess who the presenters were? You guessed it, Sean, and Tricia. While they did not pursue a Payroll Vault franchise immediately, they decided to hire a dedicated Payroll Manager. Still curious to learn more about Payroll Vault, Douglas and Sean scheduled a meeting in Sarasota during annual Inspire Conference. After their in-depth conversation, Douglas was convinced that they should seriously consider joining the Payroll Vault family.

After that fateful meeting in Sarasota, they pursued a Payroll Vault franchise in early 2015 and purchased their franchise later in the year. Now in 2021, their Team has grown to include Danielle Bonner, payroll manager, Linda Wilborn, sales representative, and Cynthia’s daughter, Diana Tetherow, marketing manager. 2021 will be their year to focus on payroll growth and they are anticipating their best year yet.

“I have the best team that allows me to spend my time managing my accounting firm,” Cynthia told us. “I am so grateful to be a part of the Payroll Vault family, and I have learned so much from Sean, Marilyn, Tricia, Tim, Jessica, and the rest of the team. That doesn't even include the rest of the franchisees that are a godsend. I am unbelievably thankful that we didn’t have to go through this ongoing Pandemic alone.”

When Cynthia is not holding down the fort at her accounting firm and Payroll Vault, she loves to travel and is a Thunder season ticket holder. Since this year wreaked havoc with her two favorite past times, she refocused her efforts into running and completed her first Marathon in early October. Wow! How is that for repurposing time?
